Press Maintenance
Maintenance on the Planeta Press is serious business, as in making
sure that you maximize your RETURN ON INVESTMENT. The investment is
sizable. Often, a press "goes down" due to an accumulation of
neglect in the key areas that regular maintenance would most likely
prevent. And presses have a way of "going down" right in the
middle of a key job run, just when you can least tolerate having a press
out of service. Instead of having regular maintenance service to keep it
running in tip-top shape, it becomes "Emergency
Service", and emergency service can be more costly than if
the press was properly maintained in the first place. Additionally, a
poorly maintained press wears and degrades overall at a much faster
pace, so the real value of the machine and the investment spirals down.
And an inspection service for a
potential buyer could illuminate those problems caused by poor
maintenance easily. The sale price sinks much lower than it should be or
could be - given proper maintenance during the life of the press.
Regular, scheduled maintenance is a good business decision, whether this
is supplied by in-house maintenance personnel or outside professionals
like Offset System Service Corp. Whatever the choice, regular
maintenance is a good investment in protecting your investment and
retaining value.

Warning:
Danger, Hazard - Rotating Machinery
The most important aspect of maintenance? Safety...
Unfortunately or fortunately, this warning is necessary. Safety first!
Safety is the most important consideration for maintenance, whether
routine as performed by some press operators or by the most experienced
people specially trained in the maintenance of Planeta presses. And this
extends to our own experienced employees, and it simply cannot be
stressed too much. Safety first. And the good manuals in the field will
tell you right up front, this is dangerous, heavy, industrial grade
equipment with fast moving parts, gears that can snap fingers or thumbs
off before you can blink, electrical voltages that can be
life-threatening.
Built into each Planeta Press are safety features
that exist to protect operators and personnel. These protective devices
are not to be removed when operating or maintaining the equipment. These
include warning labels or decals, guards and guard rails, electrical
interlocks, etc. These are essential features of the press for safe
usage and maintenance, and safety is compromised if they were to be
removed. Because of the danger of electrical shock personnel should be
particularly careful to avoid contact with wiring or electrical
terminals.
Operating personnel and maintenance personnel are
responsible for following proper procedures with great care in operating
or maintaining the presses. Consult your Planeta manual and observe
company and operational policies that are designed for safe printing
runs and safe maintenance operations. Follow factory specifications
for maintenance. Consult your manual. Note:
If your press operators or maintenance personnel could benefit from
training, or you have new personnel, go to > TRAINING
